Good vibes in “Mysterious Days”... Amra Hrnjez describes a gathering of deaf people in the capital of the USA. Every month - the first weekend in month, all deaf students who live in Washington or its suburbia, get together in one of the local clubs or bars. Meeting spots are changing regularly.

Lesbian couple in Bethesda, Maryland, has shocked Americans with their decision to get a deaf baby using methods of artificial insemination. Sharon Duchesneau and Candy McCullough, both deaf from birth, made a circuit in all sperm banks in order to find a seamen from a deaf man.

Maria Hermanson, a deaf teacher in school for deaf children, writes about the educational system in Sweden. There is also an interview with Tatjana Mihajlovic, a school student with a Bosnian origins.

Hearing impaired have to be insured the same rights as hearing people  in general and professional education. There is no need for deaf people to be isolated, on the contrary, trough the different aspects of educational, cultural, professional and the other aspects of the social participation they have to function on the same level with the hearing population. That means that they should be ab equal part af the society. They should be given the same possibilities as they are given to hearing people especially knowing that hearing impaired are not as it was thought in the past  their abilities are far more higher than it's known.

A book “Dictionary for Deaf People” gives a possibility to hearing impaired to study and learn Bosnian language, and at the same time it gives a possibilities to hearing people to learn the sign language. The book is suitable for any age range, and includes studying of terms in Bosnian language, which is explained with the help of sign language and association  and at the same time studying of sign language which is explained by Bosnian language.

This is the story of Ana and Matija, two four years old who arrived in our kindergarten one sunny monday. They started in a group which never had any children with special needs. Two children are born deaf, but regained hearing abilities with a surgical methods , a micro electrical devices and electrodes were implanted in their ears. We have got some basic information's about the implant, and some instruction how to use the aparature. There is many questions, many hesitations, what are our priorities? Anyhow, new experience means a new challenge.

Association of students with handicap (USH) is non-governmental organization, which primary task is improvement of conditions for young people and students with handicap, as same as tasks for integration in society. USH represents a growing network of different organizations in partnership in Belgrade, Nis, Podgorica and Kragujevac, and has approximately 300 members.

To assure as best approach to students with handicaps as possible, is for a long time one of the basic tasks at Saint Mary´s University in Canada. For almost 30 years now, Saint Mary´s has a leading role in providing access to the higher education. In cooperation with this University, it has started a realization of the project of founding a Center for students with handicap at University in Sarajevo.

Why don´t we, in stead of urging a different courses in sign language, stimulate deaf people to learn foreign languages instead  Croatian, Italian, English, etc.? don´t we need a network of interpreters – teachers of spoken language, who should, surrounded with deaf people, read with them, explain them and help them to understand the same things as hearing people when they read books, newspapers, use internet ….etc.

Deafway II is a big festival that symbolized connecting of deaf people from all over the World. It has been held in Washington – USA, in July 2002. The glamorous Washington Conventional Center (WKC), which is settled in the center of the town, hosted this festival. During 6 days there were about 10.000 participants from USA and the rest of the World.

Adaptation of personal computers for deaf users – deaf persons has no bigger difficulties to use PC, because keyboard, mouse and screen are not big issues and difficulties, but practicing might be problematic because instructors for use of PC’s don’t know the sign language, and at the same time the frequent sounds from computers does not mean a thing to deaf persons. In order to solve these problems, deaf persons use a special software which is able to convert sounds into visible messages on the screen.

No one knows what to do with the genius’s. An average person in order to glorify gifted children, makes an image of happy child which is full of understanding for everyone, talented for music, art or mathematics, a child which is a straight A student with no need to use lot of time in order to learn the things, and the child that causes no problems to its parents. But, scientists are ruining that ideal picture saying that gifted child is a gift to the parents, but on the side a burden at the same time. However, in our educational system, those kinds can not count on an adequate professional help.

City hall representative from Graz – Tatjana Kaltenbeck – Michl, together with Association of the Hearing Impaired of Steier, has started two years ago an initiative and ordered to NOWA (Network for professional education) to assure some plans for deaf women. Money needed for this project has been received from the Office for Social Care – so called “Billions for the handicapped”. As the first step, deaf women were offered a special courses in text procedure, internet and e-mail, organized by NOWA. With these, their chances for getting a job has increased.
