MOSTOVI No 7, june 2002. godine The Association of of hearing and speech impaired
Citizens Maglaj has organised a series of activities for its members in
Maglaj from its establishment five years ago until the present.
Hearing-aids, equipment and other necessary accessories have been
donated and trophies gained for winning sport contests have already
become a part of decoration of the premises of this Association and our
edition titled “Mostovi/Bridges” is well-read.
“Help to a sick child/Pomoć bolesnom djetetu” is a
voluntary, non-profit Association of citizens established in Bihac, in
December 2000. The mentioned Association is established by mothers of
sick children and those with special needs aiming at achieving
protection of those children’s rights, children` s rehabilitation,
specialised help to parents, education by professionals etc. The final
objective is to have a Centre for long-term defect rehabilitation
treatment established. Association of parents of children with special needs
«Butterfly/Leptir» coming from Srebrenica, started with its work in
1998, being registered in 2001. Parents have been organised themselves
into this Association by their own forces due to the fact that this
category has been deprived of a lot of legal rights. The Association
stands for providing medical, legal, social, educational and other
services and help to families which have a child with special needs. There is an interesting story on students` excursion on
their way from Sarajevo to Loreto de Mar with unforgettable impressions
by Amila Selava. An acute acoustic trauma is most specific trauma of
inner ear caused by sounds of extreme power and duration. It is usually
one short or long activity of a sound of high intensity, most commonly
of ca 2000 Hz (such as explosions, shotguns, engine noise especially of
those jet ones). Blast trauma comprises all ear defects caused by strong
blast waves. Speech is in a direct interaction to the quality of
hearing i.e. of condition in which the sense of hearing is. The main
sense for speech reception is a sense of hearing. The most visible
consequence of the hearing damage is a partially developed or, if it
regards to deafness, undeveloped sense of speech. In order to learn how
to speech, it is necessary to have a continuous hearing stimulation. The
rehabilitation of children with a defect sense of hearing is a very
complex process depending upon a series of factors. One of the
significant ones is to diagnose a damage hearing on time and to subject
children with a defect hearing to a proper specialised treatment. Pages from Selma Dzapo` s diary – do not let memories
be taken away by time passing by. A seminar titled “Changes in modes of paying
attention to persons with special needs” was held in Sarajevo from 1st
to 5th July 2002, organised by a Spanish NGO “Embassy of a
Local Democracy – Barcelona”. Professor Ramon Almirall,
psychologist, made lectures for participants on various issues linked to
the education of the deaf. A book written by Dr Fuad Brkic, refers to the
hearing-aid issue starting from a short historical overview of
development, through different sorts of the above mentioned to an
electronic hearing-aid its selection, adjustment and new kinds of it. Siemens presented the latest generation of digital
hearing-aids, introducing for the first time in the world, hearing-aids
with three directed microphones with a trade name of TRIANO. Days of
having unpleasant and very noticeable hearing-aids are past. Understanding the benefits and limitations of cochlear
implants – hearing everyday sounds, hearing and understanding speech,
helping to improve your child’s own speech, using the phone can become
a reality!, reducing the influence of background noise. It is important
to understand that not all implant users get the same degree of benefit
from a cochlear implant. Preparing your child and family for cochlear
implantation – you would wish to know the costs involved regarding the
cochlear implant procedure; you should also ask the Implant Team to
describe what will take place during follow-up visits where programming
and teaching your child how to effectively use his or her device is
done; an operation details will be discussed with you by the specially
trained doctor, who performs the surgery; risks associated with surgery;
fitting abd customising the external device and learning to use the
implant. A mobile rehabilitation of hearing and speech being
applied in the Centre for rehabilitation of senses of hearing and speech
in Sarajevo for patients with cochlear implantation, is consisted of
several parts: informing parents on the role and the significance of CI
and a way of its functioning as well as on the importance of the
rehabilitation treatment aimed at improvement of the quality of hearing,
development of speech and patients` socialisation, a pre-operative
rehabilitation of senses of hearing and speech, diagnosing audio,
speech-linguistic, cognitive and motor function patients` statuses in a
pre-operative phase by applying adequate procedures, techniques and
instruments, a post-operative rehabilitation of senses of hearing and
speech, evaluation of achieved results in
development of patients` senses of hearing and speech reached by
CI and specialising adjusted texts. American
students from the faculties of defected sense of hearing visited Tuzla
and Sarajevo this summer within the project titled “Give help to
children with defected sense of hearing”. MicroLink
by Widex bridges the distance. With MicroLink, you will be able to focus
your undivided attention on the speaker, while the same time hearing
speech more clearly and distinctly than ever before – even in
extremely difficult listening situations which could even cause
difficulties for people with normal hearing. Ludvig
van Beethoven, a famous composer, when being at the age of 28, was
confronted with the first signs of deafness.
The ear disease worsened so that pretty soon he was not able to
hear any of tones he himself composed and wrote. He said to lord
Linchnovski: “Lord! What you are is something that you have become by
a case and by birth, while my position is my own achievement. Lords have
been and there will be many of them in the future, but Beethoven is one
and the only one!” Something for children –
an interesting cartoon - “Medi and his hearing-aid”. In a sweet way,
a rabbit Medi describes to children how he got his cochlear implant. “Bonton” and
“Bontoncic”, precepts of conducts with disabled people, for adults
and children. Poetry – Izet Sarajlic. Danijela Gedovic – Miss
Deaf World 2002 from Subotica, Yugoslavia. It was her night!
